The Agency for Quality Assurance and Accreditation Austria (AQ) is an independent agency for quality assurance, accreditation, certification and evaluation of all types of higher education institutions. AQ develops and conducts procedures of quality assurance in accordance with national and European standards. It has been actively working in Austria and other European countries. 

ACQUIN
The Accreditation, Certification and Quality assurance Institute

The Accreditation, Certification and Quality assurance Institute ACQUIN was founded on January 26, 2001 and accredited by the German Accreditation Council on March 22, 2001. Nowadays ACQUIN is an association of over 100 higher education institutions from Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Hungary and the United States of America. The German Accreditation Council reaccredited ACQUIN in 2006 until 30th of September 2011.

ACQUIN’s aim is to support the maintenance and enhancement of quality standards for teaching and learning in higher education and to contribute to the internationalisation of German higher education by performing accreditation for all types of higher education institutions and taking into account all types of programmes and disciplines. A main objective is to provide guidance and information for students, employers and higher education institutions and to contribute to more transparency in the market of study programmes.

The main characteristics of ACQUIN are independence, objectivity and high quality. Academic freedom and academic autonomy are respected: higher education institutions may regulate their own quality and standards, but at the same time they must guarantee transparency of process and public accountability in discharging this self-regulation.

ACQUIN operates as a non-profit organisation which is financed through membership fees as well as through Higher Education Institutions for accreditation services provided.

Accreditation Agency for Degree Programs in Engineering, Informatics/Computer Science, the Natural Sciences
(ASIIN)

ASIIN e. V. is a registered association in accordance with the law of the Federal Republic of Germany.This alliance was first founded in 1999 as the non-profit association ASII for the accreditation of degree programmes in engineering an informatics, which rapidly expanded to ASIIN in 2002 by including the fields of natural sciences and mathematics. Since 2000, ASII or ASIIN has the right to award the accreditation seal of the German Accreditation Council, in addition to the ASIIN quality seal. In 2008, there were further expansions of the activities of ASIIN e. V. such as the establishment of panels, criteria, and procedures for the evaluation of QM systems in studying and teaching and the related admission by the German Accreditation Council.

ACPUA - Aragon Agency for Quality Assurance and Strategic Foresight in Higher Education
(Zaragoza, Spain)

ACPUA is the official agency for the evaluation of higher education in the region of Aragon (Spain). It was set up in 2005 by Law of the regional Parliament. Its legal status is that of an autonomous body (public law entity), with own legal personality and its own assets and capacity to attain its objects. ACPUA is a full member, together with ANECA and the rest of Spanish agencies, of the Spanish Network of University Quality Agencies (REACU). ACPUA is an affiliate member of ENQA -European Association for Quality Assurance in Higher Education.

National Center for Professional Education Quality Assurance
(ANQA, Armenia)

National Center for Professional Education Quality Assurance was established on November 2008 to implement reviews, analysis, advising services and assessments in the field of professional education.

ANQA contributes to the development of public trust, community cooperation, responsibility and competitiveness in Armenian society through systematic enhancement of quality assurance in higher education.

The aim of the center is to set quality assurance system, which is supportive by considering the needs of national stakeholders, corresponds to international standards and provides visibility at international level.

ANQA is an affiliate member of ENQA -European Association for Quality Assurance in Higher Education and a member of International Network for Quality Assurance Agencies in Higher Education (INQAAHE).

(EKKA)

Estonian Higher Education Quality Agency (EKKA) continues the work of the Estonian Higher Education Accreditation Centre and the Estonian Higher Education Quality Assessment Council that operated from 1997 to 2008. EKKA was established on January 1, 2009.

(ACBSP)

The Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP) is a leading specialized accreditation association for business education supporting, celebrating, and rewarding teaching excellence. The association embraces the virtues of teaching excellence and emphasizes to students that it is essential to learn how to learn.

ACBSP accredits business, accounting, and business-related programs at the associate, baccalaureate, master, and doctorate degree levels worldwide. Recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) in 2001 and again in 2011, ACBSP was the first to offer specialized business accreditation at all degree levels.

The Polish accreditation committee
(PKA)

The Polish Accreditation Committee (PKA) is the first independent institution, established by way of a legal act of highest importance, working within the higher education system in Poland for the improvement of the quality of education in all public and non-public higher education institutions forming the system, authorised to conduct assessments of the compliance with the requirements necessary to provide education and evaluation of its quality on the first – cycle, second – cycle as well as third – cycle studies, postgraduate programmes and evaluation of activities of basic organisational units of HEIs. The Polish Accreditation Committee was established under the name of the State Accreditation Committee on 1 January 2002 in compliance with the act on higher education of 12 September 1990, and its tasks and working procedure became redefined and expanded by the currently effective act of 27 July 2005 Law on Higher Education. PKA is an organisation of experts diagnosing the condition of higher education and conducting systematic activities in order to enhance the quality of education.Evaluations conducted by PKA are obligatory and negative assessment of the Committee may cause suspension or withdrawal of authorisation to provide degree programme in a given field of study and at a given level of study on the basis of a decision of minister responsible for higher education.

Act of Law on Higher Education and executive regulations, Statutes of PKA adopted on the plenary session of the Committee as well as standards and criteria appointed by the Committee constitute legal basis of PKA’s activities. Operations of the Polish Accreditation Committee are financed from the state budget. Terms of office is set to 4 years. PKA presents to the minister responsible for higher education opinions regarding programme evaluation, institutional evaluation, establishing of the HEI, authorisation (or re-granting of an authorisation) to provide degree programmes, establishing of a HEI or branch campus in Poland by a foreign HEI. Moreover, PKA gives opinions regarding quality of education in basic organisational units of HEIs which apply for an authorisation to confer academic degrees as well as gives opinion on draft bills realted to the area of higher education.

On 15th April 2009 the State Accreditation Committee was officially accepted to European Quality Assurance Register for Higher Education (EQAR) founded to enhance transparency and trust in quality assurance. EQAR publishes and manages a register of quality assurance agencies that substantially comply with the European Standards and Guidelines for Quality Assurance (ESG) to provide the public with clear and reliable information on quality assurance agencies operating in Europe.

Polish Accreditation Committee is a full member of:

  • Central and East European Network for Quality Assurance Agencies in Higher Education (CEENQA) – since January 2002;
  • European Consortium for Accreditation (ECA) – since December 2005 r.;
  • International Network for Quality Assurance Agencies in Higher Education (INQAAHE) – ince May 2007 r.;
  • European Association for Quality Assurance in Higher Education (ENQA)- since January 2009 r..

PKA also signed bilateral agreements with:

ANECA (Spain), NVAO (Netherlands); ÖAR (Austria); ANQA (Armenia); SKVC (Lithuania); FIBAA (Germany); NEAA (Bulgaria).

In 2012 U. S. National Committee on Foreign Medical Education and Accreditation (NCFMEA) performed a review which proved that standards and processes used to accredit medical schools in Poland are comparable to those used to accredit medical schools in U.S.

National Accreditation Agency
(NAA)

A subordinate agency of the Federal Service for Supervision of Education and Science (Rosobrnadzor). The activity of the federal state budgetary institution "NAA" is based on the management system that meets the requirements of international standards for management and quality assurance of education, and is aimed at ensuring the external quality assurance of education and promoting the recognition of student learning outcomes in Russian educational organizations at national and international levels.

FSBI "NAA" carries out its functions in accordance with the state task of the Federal Service of Supervision in Education and Science within the scope of the delegated powers for state accreditation of educational organizations in order to ensure the objectivity and detachment of the decisions made.
